Water is the most important component of a healthy lifestyle, drinking enough water is key to our success. We should drink at least ½ of our body weight (measured in pounds) in fluid ounces of water. Some variables can affect the recommended amount of water, for example, if we are performing highly physical activity in a high-temperature environment we will lose a big amount of water to sweat, in that case, we must consider increasing the amount of water we drink.
Among the many benefits of water, it helps us diluting the nutrients we intake to make them easier to absorb, it also helps us eliminating the toxins out of our body to keep it working it at best. In order to take full advantage of all the benefits, isn’t a bad idea to keep track of the amount of water we are drinking, even if is not in a perfectly accurate way.
A big part of the population doesn’t drink even 3/4 of the recommended amount of water, it’s not uncommon to hear someone say they drink only one glass of water a day, that happens because people often compensate by drinking coffee, tea, juice, soda, energy drinks, etc. Even when the main component of those beverages is water, the other elements will add calories or chemicals to our daily diet, often sabotaging our efforts of having a healthier lifestyle.
As the very first step into engaging in a healthy lifestyle, look into drinking enough water and being conscious of the sugars, fats, caffeine, taurine, etc that you could intake thorough other beverages.
